Black Environmental Thought Conference, May 22-24, 2007
A conference addressing Black Environmental Thought and how it connects to sustainable
agriculture will be held at the Kellogg Conference Center, Tuskegee University, May 22-24,
2007. Abstracts for papers and other presentations will be taken until November 1.
The purpose of the conference is to develop more concrete thinking about Black ecological
thought and its application to African American farming and sustainable agriculture. The goal
is to move innovation in Black sustainable agriculture forward and to contribute to the overall
diversity of thought in sustainable agriculture.

Conference sponsors are Southern Region SARE, the Federation of Southern Cooperatives, the AfroEco Group,
Tuskegee University, Fort Valley State University and the University of Georgia.

Southern SARE Call for Proposals
Southern Region SARE PROGRAM announces the release of two calls for proposals: 2007 Southern Region SARE Producer Grants and 2007 Southern Region SARE On-Farm Research Grants. Proposals for both programs are due by November 15, 2006. Proposals will be accepted only through the Southern SARE Online Proposal Submission web site. All the rules and full information on how to submit proposals can be found in the call for proposals at http://www.southernsare.org. Southern SARE Producer Grants are only open to farmers and/or ranchers or producer organizations. Any farmer/rancher or producer organization in the US Southern Region is eligible to apply for the grants which have maximums of $10,000 for individual producers and $15,000 for producer organizations to be used within two years. Southern SARE On-Farm Research Grants are open to Extension, NRCS and NGO personnel who work with farmers. Any Extension, NRCS or NGO personnel who work with farmers in the US Southern Region are eligible to apply for a SSARE On-Farm Research Grant. Applicants must work with at least one cooperating farmer or rancher and can apply for up to $15,000 to be used within two years. The Southern Region is comprised of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Puerto Rico and the U.S.Virgin Islands.
