May-05-2006 The Southern Region IPM Center announces release of a Request for Applications to the FY2006 IPM Enhancement Grants Program, Part 2.
This program is open to a wide range of stakeholders in IPM from the Southern Region of the United States. This Request for Applications (RFA) solicits proposals for two types of Special Projects. "IPM Seed Grants" will support projects to plan, initiate or catalyze important new IPM efforts and initiatives. "IPM Capstone Grants" will support outreach and/or educational projects that serve as capstones to previously existing research and Extension IPM initiatives.

Proposals for no more than 1 year duration and no more than $25,000 must be submitted in both printed and electronic formats. Deadlines are 5:00 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time) on Friday, June 23, 2006 (electronic submission) and 5:00 Eastern Daylight Time Wednesday, June 28, 2006 (printed submission). [More Information]

Mar-09-2006 The Southern Region IPM Center announces release of a Request for Applications to the FY2006 IPM Enhancement Grants Program, Part 1.
This RFA covers State Contact and IPM Documents project types. Part 2, to cover other project types, will be released at a future date. This program is open to a wide range of stakeholders in IPM from the Southern Region of the United States. Electronic and printed submissions are required. Submission deadlines are April 14, 2006 (electronic) April 19, 2006 (printed). This RFA is now closed.
Nov-21-2005 Mid-Atlantic Guide to Insect Pests and Beneficials of Corn, Soybean, and Small Grains Now Available
This free insect identification guide is the result of a cooperative project by Virginia Tech, the University of Delaware, and the University of Maryland, and sponsored in part by the Southern Region IPM Center and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. [More Information]
Nov-10-2005 USDA to expand soybean rust tracking and management projects
Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns announced on October 27 that USDA is again funding projects to track the spread of soybean rust and create the Pest Information Platform for Extension and Education to provide producers with information about additional legume pests and diseases. Sep-16-2005 SRIPMC Awards IPM Enhancement Grants for 2005
The Southern Region IPM Center is pleased to announce the recipients of the IPM Enhancement Grants for 2005. After meeting in June with the Proposal Review Panel, the Center awarded more than $441,000 to fund 17 programs across the southern region. [More Information]
Sep-16-2005 PMAP Grants Awarded
Pest Management Alternatives Program (PMAP) grants support the development of new pest management tools and techniques to address critical pest problems identified by pest managers and other stakeholders. For FY2005 eight grants were funded with three of them addressing issues within the southern region. [More Information]

Jul-19-2004 Southern Region Awards Center Grants
The Southern Region IPM Center is pleased to announce it has awarded its first set of Center grants for 2004. After the Scientific Review Panel met in June, the Center awarded more than $520,000 to fund 24 programs across the Southern region. Funded programs fall into one of three categories: State Contacts, Crop Profiles and Pest Management Strategic Plans, or Special Projects.
Jul-01-2004 Center Hires Jim VanKirk as Associate Director
The Southern Region IPM Center is happy to announce that Jim VanKirk, current co-director of the Northeast Region, will be joining the Southern Region as Associate Director by the first of September. VanKirk brings many years of experience with him, including helping to form the Northeast Center and its programs.
Mar-29-2004 SRIPMC Committees to Meet
The next meetings of the Steering Committee and the Advisory Council for the SRIPMC will be held on April 29 and 30. Both groups will meet jointly on the 29th, and the Steering Committee will meet separately on the 30th. Contact Ron Stinner for more information on times and agendas.

The Southern Region IPM Center (SRIPMC) is pleased to announce its first Request for Applications. Application deadline is April 30, 2004. Jan-30-2004 Center Hires Communication Specialist
We are very happy to announce that Jennifer Hodorowicz will be joining our staff on Feb 16th. Jennifer's first job will be to introduce herself to the IPM community in the South.
Jan-16-2004 State Contact E-System Developed
A web-based email and reporting system has been developed that allows the Center to notify state contacts about information needs and records responses. The system both simplifies merging responses and provides the data required to justify the State Contact System. Contact Steve Toth for more information or instructions.
Jan-16-2004 Center to hire 2 staff
The Center should shortly have a full-time writer to help IPM scientists in the South develop success stories. We have requested permission to hire and hope to have someone in place by mid-February.
Harold Coble is Chairman of the Search Committee for the Associate Director for IPM. Applications have been received and are being reviewed.
Jan-15-2004 Center defines funding programs

Jan-15-2004 Center receives funds
CSREES has finally notified the Center that we have the authroity and funds to develop and issue the RFA's for Center programs
Jan-10-2004 CSREES budget has good and bad news. For IPM, mostly bad.
The overall CSREES budget - appears to be fairly stable. But budget lines enacted for FY2003 show roughly 10-11% cuts for most programs (including across the board 0.59% rescission). These include:

  • Regional IPM Grants
  • PMAP
  • IR-4
  • IPM Centers
  • Smith-Lever 3(d) IPM
  • Crops at Risk (CAR)
  • Risk Avoidance and Mitigation Program (RAMP)
  • Methyl Bromide Alternatives

Jan-05-2004 Report of the Priorities Committee
For the upcoming 2004 RFA only, Project Directors must fully justify their projects based on relevance and importance to the Southern Region, and that successful projects must demonstrate stakeholder involvement in project planning. Stakeholder input may be documented by reference to priorities listed in PMSPs or other relevant databases (cited in the RFA), or by letters from growers/industry, commodity groups and/or non-governmental organizations.
