Sudden Oak Death Disease Found In South Carolina

Posted 09.06.05 - South Carolina has reported its first case of a deadly plant disease that has already spread to several other Southeastern states.

Steve Jeffers with Clemson University said sudden oak death was found on a camellia from an undisclosed Lowcountry nursery. Southern plants such as camellia, rhododendron, azalea and mountain laurel are known hosts for the disease.

The disease entered the United States in 1995. It's already been found in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Tennessee.
