Position Title: Assistant Professor and Extension Entomologist
Appointment: 75% Extension- 25% Research; 12 month appointment; non-tenure track
General Duties and Responsibilities: Develops and conducts extension education and applied research and implements IPM programs in agricultural entomology in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, TX (Texas Cooperative Extension District #12). The individual has statewide responsibilities in vegetable entomology and supports county and regional programs in urban and agricultural entomology including cotton, feed grains and livestock. Works with County Extension Agents and other Specialists to plan, conduct and evaluate educational programs in entomology by delivering information, training/teaching materials and providing applied research/demonstration assistance. Works as a member of interdisciplinary teams and with agricultural commodity groups to address production problems. Supports the mission and goals of the Department of Entomology. Participates in professional improvement and professional society activities at the local, state and national levels.
Administrative Relationships: The selected individual will be a non-tenure faculty member of the Texas A&M University Department of Entomology and will interact with the Department Head and with Texas Cooperative Extension Administration through the Associate Department Head and Extension Entomology Program Leader. The selected individual will cooperate with District Extension Administrators, Regional Program Directors, Extension Specialists, County Extension Agents, Extension Agents-IPM and Experiment Station colleagues in planning, conducting and evaluating educational and applied research programs in entomology.
Qualifications: PhD in Entomology is required. The equivalent of two years of experience in extension, teaching, research or similar work is preferred. Knowledge of and experience with design, implementation and evaluation of IPM methodology is desirable. Candidate must also have demonstrated ability to work closely with diverse audiences (including agricultural producers), to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing), to function effectively as a team member and to plan, conduct and evaluate applied research. An understanding of field crop production principles and practices is highly desirable. Computer competency is required. Evidence of successful utilization of a variety of teaching and information delivery methods is desirable.
