Activists Mobilize to Campaign for Pesticide-free Lawns

Posted 6.13.05 - Several activist organizations are campaigning to get large retailers, such as Lowe’s and Home Depot, to sell a full range of organic, nontoxic lawn care products and reconsider the sale of weed and feed products. They argue that reducing exposure to pesticides will reduce potential effects.

The activist organizations have formed the National Coalition for Pesticide-Free Lawns. The newly formed group plans to educate stakeholders about non-chemical alternatives.

According to the Coalition, lawn and garden pesticides account for 90 million of the 213 million pounds of non-agricultural pesticides used each year.
