University of Florida claims victory over mole cricket pests

Posted 6.30.05 - Researchers in Florida recently won a 25-year battle against invasive mole cricket pests. The mole cricket pest population, known for causing millions of dollars in damages to turf and pastures each year, will now be controlled through the release of wasps, nematodes, and flies, imported from South America.

According to UF/IFAS professor of entomology Howard Frank, the release of these three organisms has already reduced mole cricket populations in the Gainesville area by 95 percent.
