Orange pesticide control honored

Posted 10.30.05 - N.C. State University has recognized the Orange County Schools for eliminating the routine application of pesticides.

During a ceremony tonight, the university's director of cooperative extension, Jon Ort, will present the award for Integrated Pest Management. Officials from the Department of Public Instruction, School Boards Association, Pest Management Association and others will attend.

Integrated Pest Management is an approach to pest control that proponents say reduces the risk of exposure to pesticides for students, teachers and staff in public schools.

The N.C. State Integrated Pest Management Program recognized 11 school districts that have already implemented an IPM program, as well as 10 districts that are in the process of implementing new programs.
