Request ID: 58
Request From: Steve Toth
Date Requested: Dec 22, 2003
Request: I received the following message last Friday. It contains another request for information regarding methyl bromide to support the Critical Use Exemption requests that the U.S. has submitted on behalf of the Southeastern Consortium and others. This request is coming from the Montreal Protocol's Methyl Bromide Technical Options Committee. Please review the attached document and send me your comments. I will summarize the responses and submit them on behalf of the Southern Region. I realize that many of you are not working this week (e.g., December 22-26 are holidays for NC State); however, the deadline for responding is January 9 so I did not want to wait until after Christmas to send this request to you. Thanks you for your continuing assistance. Steve Toth -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Methyl Bromide Information Date: Fri, 19 Dec 2003 14:11:11 -0500 From: "Thompson, John E (OES)" The note below is being sent on behalf of Deputy Assistant Secretary for Environment Claudia McMurray: Dear methyl bromide agriculture stakeholders: As many of you know, the United States has received additional questions from the Montreal Protocol's Methyl Bromide Technical Options Committee regarding its continuing evaluation of the 2005 U.S. Critical Use Exemption nomination. I know that EPA has already contacted some of you to seek clarification on responses to specific questions, and I thank you for continuing to work with us on this issue. This is an important issue for the U.S. government. All of the relevant government agencies are currently working to ensure that we provide the best possible information on the U.S. nomination to the MBTOC. I have included these questions as an attachment below, and they can also be found on the EPA website at http://www.epa.gov/Ozone/mbr/index.html. It is my understanding that EPA has already been in contact with many of you to discuss possible responses to the MBTOC questions. We would appreciate your providing us with any additional information by January 9, 2004 you think would assist us in responding to these questions. If you have specific information you would like to provide, please send it either to your EPA contacts or to John Thompson at the State Department (202-647-9799; ThompsonJE2@state.gov). If you have specific questions, please contact David Widawsky (703-308-8150; Widawsky.David@epa.gov) at EPA for assistance. Thank you very much for your continuing assistance in this important matter. Claudia A. McMurray Deputy Assistant Secretary for Environment U.S. Department of State Washington, D.C. 20520
